Brwd Privacy Policy
Brwd is an app for keeping track of your books, loans and reading, and for sharing your shelf with friends. This page explains what information Brwd handles and why.
Information you give us
- Account: your email address (or the private relay address Apple provides if you use Sign in with Apple), your name, and the username you choose.
- Your library: the books you add, plus anything you record about them: shelf locations, loan notes, who has borrowed a book, read dates, star ratings and written reviews, and your reading log.
- Social features: your friend connections and requests, borrow requests, loans between friends, and book recommendations.
- Photos you scan: a photo of a book cover or bookshelf that you choose to scan.
How we use it
Only to run Brwd: to keep your library saved and in sync across your devices, to let you connect with friends, to identify books from your photos, and to keep the service safe (for example, a daily limit on photo scans per account). We do not sell your information, show ads, or track you across other apps or websites.
What your friends can see
Friends you have accepted can see your name and username and the books in your library, including read dates, ratings, reviews and whether you are currently reading a book. They do not see your shelf locations or your loan notes. A friend you lend a book to, or borrow a book from, can see that loan. If you do not want this, do not accept the friend request, or remove the friend at any time.
Photos
When you scan a photo, it is sent through our scanning service to Anthropic, which analyses it to read the book titles and authors. We do not keep your photos. The photo is used for that scan only. Anthropic handles data under its own terms and privacy policy.
Services we rely on
- Supabase stores your account and library data and handles sign-in.
- Cloudflare runs our scanning and invite-link services.
- Anthropic analyses scanned photos, as described above.
- Open Library provides book search and cover images; the titles, authors or ISBNs you search for are sent to it.
- Apple provides Sign in with Apple if you choose to use it.
These providers process information on our behalf and under their own privacy terms.
Keeping and deleting your information
We keep your information while your account exists. You can permanently delete your account at any time inside the app: tap the account icon at the top left, then Delete account. This removes your profile, library, reading log, friend connections, loans, requests and recommendations. Copies held in our providers' routine backups are removed on their normal cycle.
Security
Your data is stored with Supabase behind access rules that let each account read only its own data, and the data friends are meant to see. Connections to our services are encrypted. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
Children
Brwd is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page.
